Decent SUV, Bad Timing

They say that in life, timing is everything—this is especially true in the car business. A good car introduced at the wrong time has a tough road to hoe. This happens to be the case with the Kia Borrego.

The Borrego is a traditional midsize SUV with a truck-type body-on-frame platform. Buyers have moved away from this kind of SUV, and sales in this category have tanked.
Why Kia chose to introduce the Borrego this year is puzzling. The Korean automaker has been more successful delivering low-priced economy cars.

I drove the Kia Borrego for a short period of time, and it is not a bad vehicle. It has seating for seven, a flexible interior for hauling supplies home from the big-box store, and decent handling. Furthermore, buyers can opt for V-8 power, four-wheel drive and a host of high-tech features. Prices for the Borrego start at $26,995, and range up to $33,745.
